Has Rick Barnes won a national championship?

Rick Barnes has not won a national championship as a head coach, but he came very close to doing so in 2003.

That year, he led the Texas Longhorns to their first Final Four appearance since 1947, where they faced the Syracuse Orange in the national semifinals.

The game was a close and thrilling contest, with both teams exchanging leads and making clutch plays.

However, Syracuse prevailed with a 95-84 victory, thanks to the stellar performance of their freshman star Carmelo Anthony, who scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Texas finished the season with a 26-7 record and a No. 3 ranking in the final AP poll.

Barnes was named the Naismith College Coach of the Year for his remarkable achievement.

Tennessee basketball coach history

Rick Barnes is the 19th head coach in the history of Tennessee basketball, which dates back to 1908.

Barnes was hired by Tennessee in 2015 after he was fired by Texas following a disappointing season.

He replaced Donnie Tyndall, who was fired after one season due to NCAA violations.

Barnes inherited a team that had gone 16-16 and had missed the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

He quickly turned the program around, leading the Volunteers to five consecutive winning seasons, four NCAA Tournament appearances, one SEC regular-season title, one SEC Tournament runner-up finish, and one Sweet Sixteen appearance.

Barnes also developed several players into NBA prospects, such as Grant Williams, Admiral Schofield, Jordan Bone, and Keon Johnson.

He has compiled a record of 113-56 at Tennessee so far and has become one of the most beloved and respected coaches in the SEC.
